- The Athens, GA Music and Arts Festival
Annual music and arts summer festival in downtown Athens with over 150 local and regional bands playing outdoor stages and downtown clubs. Also features a juried artists' market, film screenings, a KidsFest, music business seminars, and more. Kicks off with the Flagpole Athens Music Awards at the Morton Theatre.

History
Athens has served as wellspring of musical talent
'Few cities in the world can claim a musical identity that has become as well-known, diverse and entrenched as Athens'.' This article orginally appeared in 'Historical Perspective of Clarke County, Part 4, 1950-2001' as part of the Athens-Clarke County Bicentennial.
Music scene exploded after strike by B-52's
'A seminal event in the Athens music scene occurred on Valentine's
Day in 1977 when the B-52's made their debut at a house party
across from the Taco Stand on North Milledge Avenue.' This article chronicles the growth of the Athens music scene since that time.
