Green Life Expo

FEBRUARY

AIDS Walk/Run Athens
A fundraiser to help care for people affected by AIDS and to prevent future cases of HIV and AIDS. The funds raised are donated to AIDS Athens, a nonprofit organization that supports nearly 300 individuals and families affected by HIV and AIDS in ten Northeast Georgia counties.

Animal Voices Film Festival
A film festival that explores human relationships with other species and promotes a more compassionate and humane world for animals.

Athens Jewish Film Festival
An annual weekend of films and discussions to celebrate American and international films of Jewish interest.

A Taste of Athens
A benefit for Community Connection of Northeast Georgia. Features the cuisine of local restaurants and caterers along with a silent auction.

BreastFest
An annual event which increases awareness and raises money for breast cancer research and medical services.

The Cottage 5K
This annual 5K fundraiser is part of Sexual Assault Awareness Week, a series of events designed to bring the community's attention to the realities of sexual assault and child abuse.

Dancing with the Athens Stars

The Athens Classic
A professional golf tournament held at the UGA Golf Course with proceeds benefiting need-based student scholarships through the Arch Foundation.

Boybutante Ball
This annual ball and stage show is northeast Georgia's largest fundraiser for AIDS support services.

Classic City Brew-Fest
The longest-running indoor beer festival in the Southeast offers samples of over 200 handcrafted beers from around the world. Benefits local charities.

Eco-Adventure
Compete against other teams in a nature-based challenge course that includes running, hiking, canoeing, archery, plant identification and more.

FLUKE Mini-Comics Show
A mini-comic festival organized by Athens-area comic artists, underground publishers, and enthusiasts as a venue for the discussion and exchange of timely ideas related to mini-comics, zines, and independent publications.

Greenfest
Greenfest is an annual community-wide celebration of environmental awareness featuring programs and events focusing on nature and community improvement.

Hands On Athens
Assists low-income homeowners in historic neighborhoods to maintain, repair, and restore their properties as part of neighborhood revitalization.

International Street Festival
Created by the International Student Organizations at UGA, this festival brings together a community of all nations and cultures to promote international cultural awareness to the Athens community. Features cultural displays, traditional costumes, dances, music, and more.

Junk Yard Jog 5K
An annual cross-country 5K event in support of the environmental education programs of Keep Athens-Clarke County Beautiful.

Run/Walk for Home 5K
Thousands of runners and walkers participate in this fundraising event to help the homeless and hungry in Northeast Georgia. Proceeds benefit Athens Area Habitat for Humanity and Athens Area Homeless Shelter.

Take Back the Night
TBTN confronts violence against women with an all-day informational event on the UGA campus, a rally with inspirational speakers and bands, and a march through downtown Athens followed by an interfaith vigil and survivor speak out on North Campus.

Twilight Criterium
Features nationally recognized professional bicycle racing , live music, workshops, and other events held throughout downtown Athens. Offers eight separate race classes and 150 cyclists competing in the main event, the men's criterium, a 60-km night race around downtown Athens.

Twilight Jazz Festival
The UGA/Athens Twilight Jazz Festival combines an educational jazz festival hosted at the School of Music and free jazz performances for the community at the Athens Twilight Outdoor Stage on Friday and Saturday.



MAY

Athens Human Rights Festival
Brings together political activists, musicians, and artists to share information about human rights issues across our nation and around the world. Offers a wide range of featured speakers, local music, and more.

Athens Indie Craftstravaganzaa
A craft fair with a modern flair, bringing together regional artists, music, and refreshments for a unique shopping experience in the vibrant downtown district. Held biannually in May and December.



JUNE

AthFest :: The Athens, GA Music and Arts Festival
Annual music and arts summer festival in downtown Athens with over 150 local and regional bands playing outdoor stages and downtown clubs. Features an artists market, film screenings, a KidsFest, music business seminars, and more. The event kicks off each year with the Flagpole Athens Music Awards at the Morton Theatre.

Five Points Art Fest
An eclectic display of arts and entertainment from local Athens artists on the front lawns of Five Points businesses.



JULY

Athens Dawg Derby
A weekend-long flyball tournament featuring dog racing in regular, multibreed, veterans, and open classes. Held at the Classic Center in downtown Athens.

Harriette Austin Writers Conference
Helping writers to improve their writing and get published. Learn about the latest publishing trends and meet professional agents and authors.

Star Spangled Classic
A summertime tradition continues each Independence Day with the annual Star Spangled Classic at Bishop Park presented by the ACC Department of Leisure Services.



AUGUST

Athens Area Maternity and Baby Fair
A free event for everyone with a baby or young child in their life now or in the future. Educational sessions, health institutions, and social service agencies provide an opportunity to learn about maternal and child community resources.

Athens PopFest
An annual four-day event featuring over 80 bands from around the world.

Groovy Nights
A flashback to the 1970s featuring food, music, raffles, and a silent auction. All proceeds support the ongoing mission of Project Safe to eliminate domestic violence.

Mule Fest
A three-day festival consisting of art, comedy, childrens activities, and music with a focus on styles such as Americana, blues, funk, jazz, and soul.



SEPTEMBER

Athens Area Volunteer Expo
Explore volunteer opportunities with local nonprofit organizations and find out how you can get involved and strengthen our community.

Athens Run for the Dogs
Volunteers from the Georgia chapter of Canine Companions for Independence host this fundraising event featuring a 5K race for runners, a 1-mile fun run/walk for people and their canines, a raffle, and canine rescue groups with adoptable pets.

Grace's Birthday Party
A celebration for dogs and those who care for them. Raises money for the GRACE fund which helps dogs who need medical care which their owners cannot afford.

Toast in the Garden
An annual fund-raising event at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia featuring wine tasting and hor d’oeuvres from local eateries along with live music. All proceeds support the litter prevention, beautification, and community improvement projects of Keep Athens-Clarke County Beautiful.



OCTOBER

Clarke Oconee Heart Walk
A 5K walk sponsored by the American Heart Association to raise funds for heart disease and stroke research and education.

Dixie Film Festival
Showcases national or regional premieres of more than 30 independent films including "Mason-Dixon" screenings that honor Georgia filmmakers.

EcoFocus Film Festival
EcoFocus showcases world-class environmental films along with panel discussions featuring experts, filmmakers, artists, and special guests. The festival aims to engage audiences in an exploration of our relationship to the environment, and to inspire increased public awareness, discussion, and action to improve the ecological health of the planet & its inhabitants.

Harvest Festival
This annual celebration of old time crafts and rural life lets participants of all ages learn about some of Georgia's history first hand. Each year features over fifty live demonstrations of quilting, woodworking, spinning, weaving, soap making, bee keeping, music, and dancing, as well as tours of the Ware Lyndon House.

In Their Shoes
A 13 mile one-day walk recognizing and honoring women who have lived through breast cancer. All proceeds from the walk support the Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support through the Athens Regional Foundation.

Jittery Joe's Fall Classic Century
A metric century ride with two course lengths, 62 miles and 31 miles, winding through scenic Clarke County. Also features a 6 mile family fun ride option. All proceeds benefit Athens Area Habitat for Humanity.

The Marketplace
The Junior League of Athens presents The Marketplace, a shopping extravaganza to benefit local charities including the MLK Day of Service.

North Georgia Folk Festival
Features music styles traditional to the North Georgia region such as bluegrass, blues, and old time music along with traditional crafts.

Rivers Alive
Help clean our rivers, streams, lakes and wetlands by volunteering in support of the annual Athens-Clarke County Rivers Alive event.

The Wild Rumpus
A Halloween Parade and Spectacle channeling the creative spirit of Athens into an inventive mix of fun, creativity, and revelry for all.



NOVEMBER

Community Tree Fair
The annual event includes a tree climbing demonstration, exhibit booths, kids booths, tree care demonstrations and more. A wide variety of tree species native to North Georgia are available for purchase.



DECEMBER

Christmas Parade
The annual Parade of Lights ushers in the holiday season with over sixty floats, bands, and other groups parading through downtown streets. Sponsored by ACC Leisure Services.

Railroad Arts District Holiday Market
Over 30 local vendors selling their wares outdoors at Chase Park Warehouses. Features local crafts, handmade gifts, original art, and live music.
