Nominees: Germaine Cahoon
Department: Reference - MLC
Testimonial: Germaine Cahoon hit the ground running when she began work as a library reference assistant in the MLC at the beginning of October 2011. Business at the MLC rises and falls with the academic year, and you couldn’t pick a busier time than fall semester. Although Germaine’s previous experience as an EITS student consultant and in public service at the Athens Regional
Library certainly helped prepare her, she had never worked in an academic library before. Our chat questions cover research in all subject areas, so answering them requires a strong knowledge of a wide range of reference sources. Despite this learning curve, after only a few weeks of training Germaine was confident enough to juggle chat and staff the MLC service desk during both day and evening shifts. Another duty of Germaine’s is collecting the question statistics taken by the EITS student assistants. Germaine has developed good working relationships with the EITS staff and students, and she helped create a plan to make it easier for the students to remember to record questions. She’s also become the Libraries’ point person for our Library à la Carte guides and helps create the famous “Stall Street Journal” with Diane Trap. Germaine treats her coworkers and every patron she encounters with kindness, intelligence, and good humor, and we are very happy to have her in Reference.
Nominee: Germain Cahoon
Department: Reference/MLC
Testimonial: This year Germaine Cahoon joined the MLC staff, and she has impressed all with her work ethic, sunny disposition, and commitment to the building's mission. She successfully modified the desk statistics system to provide better coverage, she has developed an excellent working relationship with building partners, and she has attacked each new role with a smile and an positive attitude.
Germaine has quickly become an integral part of the department, and
I look forward to seeing her future accomplishments.
Nominee: Warren Yancey
Department: Cataloging Department
Testimonial: Warren quickly became an integral part of DBM and the Cataloging department. In addition to his duties within DBM, he has taken on the role of the Supplies Coordinator for the whole department, keeping our supplies organized with adequate inventory on hand. He has helped out with other Sections' work, searching new material for Monographs Cataloging, helped unbox and shelve 1500+ items from Tifton to be withdrawn, all while maintaining an excellent level of productivity within his own Section. Warren's presentation proposal to the BIG conference was accepted. Amazing accomplishments from a "rookie"!
