NOMINEES:

Daniel Roth

Dan has been a strong and enthusiastic new addition to the Brown Media Archives. He is an Audio Technician in our department and this is a brand new and sorely needed position in our department. Dan has been an excellent employee and had really worked hard to learn the collections. He has been inventorying the Peabody Awards audio collection, which is something we have not been able to do with our previous staffing levels, and has completed 22 years of 70 years of content as of April 2011. This includes barcoding the individual items. Dan has worked with Craig Breaden and Christian Lopez in the Russell Library on sharing audio equipment and training so that Dan can do transfers directly for our department now. This is something we relied on the Russell Library to do for us. Dan is currently working with a vendor to send out about 100 1/4" open audio reels for transfer for content that we can use in the exhibit area of the new building. Dan is interested in getti! ng a Library Science degree to hone his skills and to eventually become an Audio Archivist.

Laura Veatch

Laura has been a real asset to the Interlibrary Loan Department since starting in August of 2010 and is definitely a team player who works hard to succeed in her new job. Even though it may not be considered a huge sacrifice by some, she moved to Athens for the position, and she even delayed library school for one semester so that the stress of school work on top of moving and a new job wouldn't either interfere with learning the responsibilities of her new position or affect her job performance.

For a public service area, dependability is a must, and Laura can be counted on to be on time and available to answer patron's questions and process interlibrary loan materials quickly and accurately. Her interactions with patrons and her co-workers is consistently highly professional, and she represents us well to the University community.

Laura is now working towards her MLIS at Valdosta State University, and this has increased her commitment to professional development and the library profession. She attends the quarterly MLIS coffee/informational sessions, has increased her participation in library-wide activities, and has developed professional relationships with her fellow students - all without affecting her primary responsibilities. As Laura learns more about interlibrary loan and librarianship, she will definitely become more of an asset to the Interlibrary Loan department and the University of Georgia Libraries.

Charles Connolly

Testimonial #1: Charles did not tentatively dip his toe in but jumped in head first here at the Libraries. He started as a LAII Shelving Assistant and quickly proved himself to be the best candidate to take over the Shelving Coordinator position.

Over the past few months Charles has coordinated with his shelving staff and students several major shifts moving thousands of volumes. He does this with a good vision of both immediate and future needs for the collection, excellent planning and coordinating skills, and the ability to communicate effectively to his staff and with all those involved in a given project.

Charles does all this with an excellent attitude that works on mutual respect, candor and a good sense of humor. This past year definitely demonstrates that Charles's exceptional motivation and work ethic will continue to propel him towards a bright future here at the Libraries.

Testimonial #2: I am nominating Charles Connolly for Newcomer of the Year in the Classified Staff category. When Charles was hired for the position, he filled some big shoes left by Paul Van Wicklen. While our positions do not intersect on a regular basis in regard to duties, I see Charles frequently while he is out and about doing his job. His sense of humor and cheerful demeanor are always a day-brightener.
