NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR - FACULTY:
Awarded to a Libraries' faculty member who has exhibited:

- Strong work ethic;
- Commitment to service;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- Dedicated engagement in training for the position and a commitment to professional development;
- Successful initiation of working relationships, and
- Demonstration of solid potential for future service to the Libraries.
Libraries' faculty members who were hired between December 1, 2008 and November 30, 2009 are eligible for this award.
NOMINEES:
Viki Timian
I am pleased to nominate Viki Timian for the Newcomer of the Year award.
The past year has been one of transition for Viki. In February 2009 she joined the faculty ranks as she assumed her new duties as Assistant Head of the Access Services Department. As part of that new role, she has taken on several new assignments and responsibilities. Additionally, she has maintained an active role serving as President, and later, Treasurer, of the Libraries Staff Association as well as presenting at the annual GUGM meeting.
Viki also served on several System-wide committees including the Chair of the GIL Circulation committee and as Vice Chair of the GUGM Planning Committee. And she attended the inaugural Access Services Conference at Georgia Tech.
Viki took the lead in assisting in several other important initiatives including serving on the task force that replaced the GIL Express UPS courier service with the lower cost alternative, Stat Courier.
But perhaps the most relevant thing I can say about Viki's contributions in the past year is the initiative and leadership she has exhibited. In short, I greatly value Viki's new role in the Department and given the tight budget pressures we are all enduring I will continue to rely on her advice and look forward to working with her in 2010.
