Ever seen the great documentary Athens, GA Inside/Out? Well, this year's theme is to go behind-the-scenes of library work and discover the culture, art, music and life that make UGA Libraries and Athens, GA truly unique. Ideas include: "Life is Art," "Libraries: The Musical," "Mockumentaries," "The Soundtrack of Our Lives," "Behind the Music," and "Backstage." Not a musician or an artist? Don't worry: we're looking for all varieties of talent and creativity that go on behind the scenes, and make the library what it is. Anything goes. So don't be afraid to get out there and really show us your ASSETS!
Departmental films this year will be done in the same manner as in past years. Participation is open to groups or library departments. Films will have a time limit of up to five minutes and will be shown and judged as part of the annual ASSET awards ceremony. Participants are encouraged to use their own equipment and film their own video, but assistance is also available (see Contact below). In the event that equipment or help is needed, the department or group should have ONE contact person; this person will be responsible for arranging the filming schedule and for all communication between that department and ASSET Awards Committee. Filming assistance will be available between June 1 and June 20, 2010. Please schedule your department's appointment as early as possible. Final, edited films must be submitted by June 22, 2010 to Craig Breaden in the Russell Library (drop it off in person or campus mail is fine too).
This year we'd like to make a full length feature film in addition to the regular departmental films. This is more of a documentary type film based around the people that make up the UGA libraries to be shown at a separate screening and saved on the library website for viewing. This will be somewhat modeled after the movie Athens, GA Inside/Out. This can include work in the library that is seldom seen by fellow employees, or any other noteworthy behind the scenes projects in which library staffers may be involved. If you have a special talent or hobby that you've been waiting to show off to your fellow co-workers, now is the time. This can be anything from music, arts, crafts, writing, philanthropy, or any other efforts in your life. Again, you can film this on your own or filming assistance is available. Please have all submissions in by June 22, 2010. Once all submissions are in place they will be compiled to make the full movie.
