Paul Nunn; Paul Nunn, in the short time that he has been at the Libraries, first as Media Desk Supervisor then as Digital Conversion Manager for Media, has made quite an impact in the direction the Library and the Media Archives is going. He is our resident streaming media expert and has helped launch media into a complete paradign shift. We now do all transfers of all moving images on DVD and we now edit digitally. He has done with our audio collections as well. We have gone from an analog based archive to a digitally based one with help from the tools provided by the Apple computers we use. He also trained our Media transfer student in using the new moving image tools. He is using the audio tools to remaster the recordings that Art Rosenbaum has dontated that are part of the Georgia Folklore Collection. The remastered recordings will become part of a compilation CD in 2007. Paul has been a very busy guy.
How has the nominee's work contributed to service quality improvement within the UGA Libraries?
Paul is working on the following committees: secondary page assessment committee, web editors group, web advisory group. He is also working on two grants for the Libraries, the IMLS grant to digitize Civil Rights footage in the WSB Collection for an education portal, and on the Save America's Treasures Grant to digitize programs from the Peabody Awards Collection. Paul has done an outstanding job researching streaming media content over the web. This streaming of content will provide access to collections in the Media Archive in a new dramatic way.
