Florence King demonstrates excellence in teaching, nurturing and providing guidance to others on a daily basis. In her position in Human Resources and at the SLC, she continually exercises excellent professional skills and guidance for those around her. How has the knowledge the nominee shared affected another person's or yours career?

Those of us that have the opportunity to work with Florence on large- and small-scale projects have the opportunity to experience her decision-making, planning, and execution skills first-hand. Her knack for thinking outside the box and considering all parties involved is something that I consider and practice - particularly in the work place. For example, recently in became evident that procedure error had taken place, which involved many factions. While anxiety started to take control of the situation at hand, after I contacted Florence, not only did a calming effect come into play, but a well-thought out strategy to fix the situation and to appease all the involved parties evolved from our dialogue.

She says what she means, and she says it in a very diplomatic way, so there is no room for misinterpretation. She is constantly available and open to having dialogues from larger concerns (e.g., personnel issues and career development) to smaller developments (e.g., what sign should go where and change machines). Her willingness to listen to her team and successfully synthesize the ideas brings people back to her for more discussions.

Has the nominee used any innovative training/teaching methods? If so, what are they, and how have they affected you and/or others?

Her objectivity and conversation skills are the key factors to her mentoring. She never shoots down an idea. She listens, synthesizes, restates, collects more information and continues to listen as the conversation unfolds. She truly recognizes that she does not know it all, and she is familiar with what others have to offer. She taps into people's strengths and looks to them for reliable input, expert advice, and diverse perspectives. Having the opportunity to witness, learn, and practice Florence's success in managing people has made her an outstanding
