Outstanding Employee of the Year -- Classified Staff Nominations
(aka University Librarian's Award)

Awarded to an outstanding Classified Staff member for continued exemplary service to the mission of the Libraries. The recipient will have exhibited exceptional job performance, attitude, and interpersonal working relationships within the libraries and/or the University community. Nominations are accepted from all employees, however, recipients are ultimately selected by Bill Potter, University Librarian.

Tom Hardaway
Map Library

Tom pretty much single handedly organized the Map Room at its location at the Science Library since eternity, and oversaw its re-location to the new, current Map Library on Whitehall Road. An incredible feat that can only be appreciated by physically going and looking at the facility. Tom is a true, important asset to the Libraries.

Mike Parrish
Network Administration and Computer Support

No one would be getting new computers this year without his work.

He's quick to learn,  and a hard worker.  The man keeps busy.  I gave up keeping up with him,  and then stopped trying to keep track of him.

Becky Wortham
Administration

No matter what the question, Becky never fails to find the answers. No matter how many times the question has been asked, Becky never fails to answer it politely.
Becky is one of the Libraries' quiet superheroes. She combines the powers of knowledge, wisdom, organization, and patience.

Over the past year, in addition to the usual challenges, Becky has helped classified staff of "a certain pay range" make the transition back from monthly to bi-weekly pay, working out payroll deduction and other issues to mitigate suffering on the part of those affected.

She has also helped student supervisors through the thory thickets of STUWK vs. LBCLR and the complex and ridiculous changes the related policy sometimes dictates.

Both of the above examples reflect changes "handed down from on high." Becky did not originate those policies -- if she had, they would be a lot clearer and easier to work with -- but she has had to bring us kicking and screaming into compliance with them. At times, we may have kicked and screamed at her. She has borne this all with the grace and patience we take for granted.

I couldn't do my job without Becky, and I'm sure a lot of other Libraries employees could say the same. And that makes her one of our most powerful ASSETS.
