Before Jeannie took the position of microfilm supervisor, she was the supervisor for the students on the 4th floor (newspaper preparation). Not long after she began working, she was diagnosed with lung cancer. She had one lung removed, but she didn't let that slow her down. As soon as she was able, she returned to work and not long after she was given the opporturnity to become microfilm supervisor. She was the natural choice for the position since she already worked for the GNP and she got along with everyone so well.
You can ask anyone in this library about Jeannie Ledford and they will have
a wonderful story to tell you about her generosity, kind-heartedness, or her
ability to bake great desserts! The reason she is the perfect person for outstanding
employee of the year is the fact that she took this position not knowing just
how bad, disorganized and backlogged everyting was until she had been in the
position for a couple of weeks. Most people would have let the stress of trying
to get everything under control get the best of them, but not Jeannie.
She began to hire new employees, teach them everything about what they needed
to do to get things caught up. Desite all the work they had to do, they still
would tell their friends that they should come work for the GNP. Jeannie is
able to make the workplace enjoyable, while still having the employees work
hard and get the job done. She has been able to get the Georgia Newspaper Project
back afloat and running smoothly , especially with getting contracts on our
machinery since it is older and needs constant maintenance.
Jeannie also has great PR skills. She is able to help patrons understand the
way everything works, what problems might have occured and what is being done
to fix them and get the film out to them. Our patrons enjoy talking to Jeannie
because of her light heartedness and humor. She has also spoken to several historical
societies about the Georgia Newspaper Project and its goals.
Jeannie is probably the only person that can make ironing newspapers fun and
exciting.
She has shown great skill and enthusiasm for her job, which is why I believe
Jeannie Ledford should be awarded Outstanding Employee of the Year!
