Renovation of Science Library, Second Floor
August 2000
A renovation of the Second Floor of the Science Library will begin in August,
2000 and is expected to take 5-6 months, ending about mid-January, 2001.
Changes that patrons will notice include:
-
Removal of the walls in Circulation and in the Reference Office
-
Replacement of the long wall in Circulation with a temporary wall, and
later with a sheetrock wall
-
Temporary move of the Reference Office and a subsequent move to a new Reference
Office to be built near the windows on the north wall of the 2nd floor
-
Replacement of the ceilings in all parts of the 2nd floor, the grid repainted,
and lens, ballast and tubes replaced. The new lighting will be much brighter.
All areas will be repainted in phases
-
Removal of the old floor tile, which contains asbestos. To speed removal,
areas will be secured and the emergency exits will be used whenever possible
to take out old ceiling tiles, etc. Phase1 will begin approximately August
21 with the wall-less classroom near Reference and extend towards the south
side of the building. Government Documents are being relocated to the area
formerly home to Current Periodicals stacks. The entire floor will be retiled
except the Collection Development office suite and the Science Binding/Reference
Librarians' office areas
Please bear with us as we complete this renovation and work to make the
Libraries more comfortable. Do not hesitate to consult with staff and faculty
in the Libraries for more detailed information or assistance.
