University System Borrowing Privileges
GIL Express Suspension Postponed
We have received many concerns from students, faculty and administrators around the System with respect to the negative impact a suspension of the GIL Express service will have on core activities such as instruction and research. We want to be responsive to these concerns and so we are continuing GIL Express through the end of Fall Semester with the expressed intent of finding a way to support this service going forward. Working in good faith with all areas of the System Office and our campuses, we will make every effort to find a way to address the required budget cuts while maintaining the library resource exchange service.
Thanks to all who have voiced concerns about the loss of GIL Express. We want to make the best decisions we can in these difficult times to protect the viability of the very reasons we exist; teaching, learning, and scholarship.
GIL Express allows all eligible students, faculty and staff of the University of Georgia to search a single online catalog that includes the holdings of all 35 USG libraries and request delivery of eligible circulating books to the UGA library of your choice. GIL Express items may be checked out for 28 days and may be returned to any University System of Georgia library.

Pickup Locations
The Pick-Up Location is the location to which the requested item is delivered for pick-up by the requesting patron. For pickup at UGA, select Main, Science or CML (the Curriculum Materials Library in Aderhold). For your convenience GIL Express items may be picked up or returned at any USG library.
Recall Fines
Please be aware that UGA libraries charge higher daily fines for recalled items, and these fines apply to GIL Express loans. Also, your original due date may be shortened on any item that has been renewed if someone at the owning library recalls the material. You may monitor your "My Account" record frequently and return materials on time in order to avoid late charges. (Go to http://giluc.usg.edu or your local catalog and click "My Account" to check your due dates.)
Renewals
If your account is in good standing and no one else has requested items, GIL Express materials may be renewed up to two times through your online account information. However, once an item becomes overdue, it cannot be renewed or checked out again. It must be returned and sent back to the owning library. GIL Express materials can only be renewed through your online account or in person at the owning library.
Blocks
One overdue book or $10.00 in fines will block your library privileges, at all USG libraries, including UGA. Fines that can accrue include recall fines, damage charges, replacement and processing costs for lost materials, and service fees charged by some libraries for billing costs. All financial obligations must be resolved with the library that owns the material. Please monitor your account frequently and return materials promptly and in good condition in order to avoid these charges.
