A picture ID is required to borrow materials from the University of Georgia Libraries. While the preferred form of identification is the UGACard, a current, government-issued picture ID, such as a driver's license, Georgia ID card, US passport, or US military ID may be used instead. You must be enrolled to be eligible for borrowing privileges. If you are an incoming student, you are not eligible to borrow materials until you have registered for classes.
Loan Periods - Books charged to graduates have a loan period of 125 days (1 semester). Exceptions include: rare books, periodicals, microforms, newspapers and others materials. The Leisure Collection circulates for 14 days. Graduate students may check out bound volumes of periodicals for 7 days. For more information on loan periods, check here. There is no limit to the number of items a borrower may check out, with the exception of special permission and Reserve items.
Renewals - Items may be renewed 2 times online without bringing them into the library. After using the online renewals, books may be brought to the Circulation Desk at Science, Main or the Curriculum Materials Library. Library staff will renew the item and reset the cycle of 2 online renewals. There is no limit on the number of times an item may be renewed as long as no one else has requested it.
Notices - Courtesy notices, overdue notices, recall notices, recall overdue notices and fine bills are sent by email. These notices are sent as a courtesy. Failure to receive a notice does not absolve the borrower from responsibility for overdue fines and/or other library fees.
Recalls - A patron with a UGACard may recall items that are charged out to another researcher. The loan period of items recalled by other users is shortened. Items being recalled by another patron should be returned as soon as possible. Recall overdue fines are $1.00 per day. Recalled items cannot be renewed
Fines - Regular overdue fines are 25 cents per day per item. Overdue fines are not charged for dates that the Libraries are closed. Payment for fines and fees can be made in person at the Main and Science Libraries' circulation desks with cash, check, or credit card. Payments can also be made via telephone with a credit card or by mail with a check or money order paid to the order of UGA Libraries.
Lost or Damaged Items - A borrower who loses an item is responsible for reimbursing the Libraries for the replacement cost, the processing fee, and any accrued fines. The cost of repair or replacement of damaged items will be billed to the borrower. Failure to pay for lost or damaged materials may result in the suspension of borrowing privileges and a hold may be placed on the borrower's University records. When Library privileges are restricted, the borrower cannot charge materials, hold a carrel or place requests for materials. Holds on university records prevent borrowers from registering for classes, purchasing athletic tickets, or receiving official copies of their University transcripts. Restrictions and holds will be removed when obligations to the Libraries are cleared.
